Larger stores routinely take Visa and M/C , Plaza Lama for example. You have no risk if it is then used fraudulently as long as you call the bank and keep track of your purchases (so you know what's yours or not) , and I doubt Plaza Lama is a front nor stores of similar size.
I use Visa at hotels, gift stores, cigar stores, etc. I don't care if they try to defraud me and they haven't.
Yes, all the mayor stores accept credit cards as a payment method. However, If you are buying lots of furniture and would like a discount, you will have to pay cash.
