I've stayed at Hotel Aloha Sol 3x this year. Never had a bad experience, except for a safety box that didn't work. Really was a non-issue. Felt completely safe there the entire time. The rooms (standard) that I've stayed in cooled down quickly from the frigid A/C each room has. Each room has cable TV with English-language programs as well. Rooms are thoroughly cleaned. Staff is very helpful, some speak English. (One bell-boy walked me down to the casa de cambio, negotiated a better than listed exchange rate, and escorted me back. I gave him 100 pesos for his troubles, he took care of me the rest of my stay.) Full service bar/restaurant below, very reasonably priced. Breakfast included in your room rate. Convenient location to much of the city.
Regarding traffic, I've never seen it very busy in front of the hotel. Calle de Sol can be busy, especially around the intersection which has McDonalds, but most cabs use the parallel streets to clear the traffic and then come down to Calle de Sol to arrive in front of the hotel. I usually walk the area during the day to frequent the local businesses for shopping deals. Traffic depends on your circumstance and needs within the city.
Hope this helps as well.
