During our two weeks we ended up playing at all three of the Playa Dorada casinos plus one in Sosua.

If you are not used to International travel and you like to gamble, we suggest going soon in your trip before you get used to the pesos.

There is nothing like getting hot and having $500 chips handed to you left and right. On the flip side, there is nothing like having a bad night and realizing back home that you only lost $20.

The slot machines are mostly nickel and quarters. They use tokens, so you buy tokens in a booth and are playing with 5 peso coins. At a 45 to 1 exchange rate, on a three coin machine you are getting three pulls for the dollar.

The table games use a 50 peso minimum, so each bet is a little more than a dollar.

I played roulette at the American Casino and hit four numbers each with 5 chips. I'm not 100% sure how much I was betting, but this is where they were handing me $500 chips (a little more than $10 USD) like crazy. The excitement waned a bit back home when we figured out that at most we won $50 USD.

Playing craps at the Paradise Beach Casino, I was able to hold my own, neither winning or losing, but I played for like 3 hours. The Paradise Beach Casino is my favorite.

We both took a beating at El Dorado Casino, but again, the conversion rate made the loss almost neglible. I was playing Caribbean Stud. I was at a table with 3 ladies who only spoke Spanish and the dealer when I sat only spoke Spanish. It threw me a bit that the Progressive bet (usually a $5 peso bet) was $25 pesos. Plus, the progressive bet only pays on a straight or better. Tough odds and my least favorite casino.

We read a bunch of warnings about the Keno and Super Keno scams and we suggest you read them, too. Luckily, we didn't see any games of that nature.

So, if you like to gamble, by all means get out there and do it. Have fun before you realize that hot streak was only worth $50.

Thanks for that report Rockkon. I always stay away from casinos but I think I can handle playing with 5 peso chips. I will give it a try this time.
