Hi, this may or may not help, but I recently saw a doctor in Santiago, an internist, and she told me the way it worked here in the DR. She gave me my first EKG.
Rather than 'family doctors', internists such as herself take care of about 90% of common maladies. So they act more as the family doctors with whom we are familiar in NA. They then refer to specialists for particular problems.
Perhaps you can first find a recommended internist to begin the process of discovery? I would be glad to give you the name of the doctor in Santiago; she spoke excellent English and I really liked her way, but perhaps SD is more convenient?
I don't have her card with me, but I believe she is Dr. Butler, and her office is in the ... hmmm, darn, can't remember the clinic name. It's on Juan Pavlo Duarte, quite close to the major hwy intersection... Materno Interna?? Sorry, will find her card at home if someone would like the details.
Good luck with your search!
