North American takes you to Santiago for 130 USD RT
North American flies out of JFK international. They use to fly to SDQ also but have canceled those flights for now. I beleive they fly 4 days a week under the new schedule.
I hope that North american airlines flies again to santo domingo soon as possible or near future.
Go to AA.com and click on the Netsaaver alerts. Have them e-mailed to you. I believe the $179 was for this week. It won't be displayed now because you would have had to book it last week. Sometimes the fare is for $189, sometimes $199, it depeneds on the deal they are offering if any. When they run it to POP from JFK, it is usually $229. Sometimes, you go for weeks without seeing a Netsaaver deal to either airport. Sometimes, they run deals to the DR a few weeks in a row. They run them to SDQ too.

This is one case where I envy New Yorkers. I live a lot closer than you, but it costs me at least twice as much to fly to the DR. Wouldn't want to pay your rent though!

Where are you looking? jfk to Santiago is 265 right now on AA.com and to POP it's 318. That's with all the taxes for a flight leaving on Saturday morning and returning Monday night.
I live in VA, and like to fly out of Raleigh when possible. The same schedule will cost me $540 to Santiago and $770 to POP. I've actually considered driving the 8 hours to JFK to save $, but by the time I pay for the gas and more expensive parking, it's just not worth the time and effort.
