Miami-based group of developers announced plans Tuesday to build a large resort dedicated to yachting along the Dominican Republic's northern coast.

The 2,600-acre resort will include 20 hotels, 80 docks, hangars for 280 yachts, a cruise ship terminal and a private airport, said Pierre Schnebelen, the head of Puerto Luperon Corp....

Great News and Story Robert.......

I figured that one of these days, We up here in the North Coast would become the Casa De Campo of the North.

Between this story and the huge Playa Grande Project to soon take place we are not far away from the BIG $$$$$$$$ of the South Coast Mega Resorts.

Cap Cana is alive, kicking and doing well.
I was in their very nice new building just behind the Jargua dealer on Lopa de Vega just the other day.

It's good to see these kinds of projects. It shows us that Dominican tourism is finally starting to add some high end properties to its portfolio. Hopefully one day we will be known for not just being the cheapest destination in the caribbean, but also for quality accomodation...
This will help us be prepared to compete with Cuba when they open up their tourism industry (after Fidel)

This is the hope for most people in tourism here.

They DR is very much undersold and projects like this if the succeed are big help in changing that "cheap" destination tag line. Plus they help to slowly push up that US$ yield per tourist and attract those tourists that contribute to the local community in they way of restaurants, shopping, etc etc.
