Last night my friend and I stumbled upon Toros band in shakabana, purely by accident. The whole santiago was dead. Bars were empty, tribecca cafe had 4 people inside, the rest of the places had only men. BIU pub had the chopo group Prodigio playing and they were charging 250 pesos / head. I was allowed to enter free but my friend was asked to pay. he wouldn't pay for the chopo act so we had to leave.
We ended up in shakabana where the toros band was scheduled to play. I think the entrance was like 500 plus but we were both allowed in for free. The place is small so one could see the group up close. The band started around 12:30am and kicked off with their hot merengue hits. It seem every song they sing is a big hit in DR and in the rest of the latin american world. These guys played a mix of merengue, musica typica and even bachata, but with style and good taste. They never looked cheap and always charged with energy. I even liked their bachata songs.
In my opinion Toros band is one of the finest merengue bands in DR. Dominicans should be very proud of them.
Now I have heard Anthony Santos had filled up madison square garden once in NY? Wow, this proves my point, 98% Dom-yorks are pure chopos. When Dom-yorks come to santiago to visit their families, they always come to cien fuego, las colinas, monterico and other ghetto places. So it seems most santiaguero dom-yorks are from ghettos of santiago, no wonder they love bachata to death. They come to bars in santiago and force the DJ to play bachata and dance to it as if we all are loving it. Is it true you folks pay 100 dollars to see Krisspy and jovanny polanco? I heard villalona's tickets were sold for 250 dollars in black market when the show was sold out.
You folks should come here and see them all for free.
