Can anyone tell me what goes on in the DR on Labor Day? Is it any different than the way the US celebrates Labor Day? Are there any wild parties? Does everything shut down? I'm just curious since I'll be there for it-I want to know what to expect.

Not much, that's for sure

Some companies will have picnics (pasadias) for their people, others will just pass it by. By law all workers will receive the equivelent to one day's wages, no matter what. If they average RD$2500 a week, they'll get RD$500 for the day off.

It will be Monday 2 May this year because of the Law that says when it falls on Sunday it is moved to Monday so the workers can have the day off.
