German run hotel, don't know about safes, yes to guest friendly, located in the Playa Chiquita area, 25 minute walk from downtown, no problem being a single male.

Any recent update on Hotel Voramar? I have reservations here in January. I plan on splitting up my 17 day vacation between three Hotels and the Voramar is one of my choices.

Big changes at the Voramar

Nothing has changed.
Still an ok hotel, a bit to far from town if you don't have wheels.

I was at the Voramar for one night 3 weeks ago. Everything posted already above is correct except for there being no changes.

In the last year they doubled in size there poolside bar. The bar is now open 24 hours a day where it wasn't before. They have nearly completed an additional 6 or so apartment units just behind it beside the tennis courts. They now rent a few auto's where they didn't before.

Henk the Dutch Manager is a very friendly and helpful guy, he speaks English also. They do have some German and also a lot of Dutch clients. Mostly all the guests speak some English and Spanish as well so no problems conversing there.

I guess you would say it is guest friendly there as on my last stay there I saw a mid 30's white woman going to her room arm in arm with an attractive 20 something Dominican woman. There is usually in the evenings available talent sitting at the bar. They have never ripped anybody off to the best of my knowledge with there bar bills. The first year I was there when I asked for a Scotch on the rocks it was a glass full of ice and then filled to the top with Scotch. I never got sick from the mix that was for sure.

It is a nice quiet location.

I initially decided on it from there website and later did a trip report on it which I posted on this sites Resort Reviews page.

Henk is a great guy, and looks out for his guest's.

As the OP said, the only drawback is the distance to Sosua Central.

Thanks for all the information!

I like the 24 hour bar ;) .

A quiet location will also be fine. This is my third trip to the DR in the last nine months. My very first trip was in May of 2005. I guess you can say I am hooked. This time I will spend 4 nights at Rockys, 7 nights at Club Residencial, and 4 nights at Hotel Voramar. This should give me a much better idea of what each area is like.

I will do a search to find your Resort Review.

Thanks again

Now if only I can get Robert to tell me how to pay for my Shark Bar voucher I won in the auction.

Originally I was concerned about the distance to town. This is why I saved this Hotel for my last few days in Sosua. I may just need the rest by then.

Do you know if MotoConchos are easily accessible at Hotel Voramar? If so, would it be the usual 20 pesos to get a ride to town?

That does not seem like a relaxing vacation switching hotels 3X!

Thanks for the payment info.

Actually it is only 2 moves, and each move is less than 5 minutes apart. I like the location of Rockys. Close to the center of town and the beach. I have stayed at Club Residencial before and enjoy hanging out at Club Alegro (sp), Dominos, and the 4 Roses. Hotel Voramar will be the new experience. I am the type of person who can't stay put in one place more than a week.

Motoconchos are always available just a stones throw form the entrance to the Voramar and yes its the usual pesos.

My trip this year I never road a motoconcho once and it was so nice not having to. A big plus to renting a car. You can rent a half descent vehicle for $30 a day right in Sosua and that includes insurance. Off season rate anyway.

a little more

voramar is very secure as far as guests. they have to leave id at the front to get in and cannot leave unless they want to lose their cedula or you escort them to the front.
as far as motos, they are generally not available after the casino closes, you'd have to walk or get a taxi. sometimes you can catch a moto when someone arrives at the hotel after 3-4am.
as stated earlier, there are generally some available talent at the bar, but if you delay too long, they go to the casino to catch the last motos out.

Thanks for the info. Cedula check A+. Motos B+. Chicas at the bar B+.

It all sounds good to me. My least concern would be catching a moto at 3-4am. At that time I will either be in for the night or in town where motos are 24/7. I know looks can be deceiving but their website looks nice. The rooms look clean, nice pool, nice bar, restaurant at the hotel, pool table.

the rooms, pool and bar are very clean. cable tv with movies, hot water - very good deal.
my only complaint, which is very common in the country, is the beds are hard.
i've stayed there many times and even with a car, tend to hang out at the bar there.

Hotel Voramar

Chica friendly but with knowledgeable security, big pool, game room, good restaurant, fun bar with visiting chicas, and an all monger clientel. Located near the far end of Pedro Clisante, near the Casino. I have stayed there 5 times. Henk and Harold are the managers.

It's actually at the far end of Alejo Martinez, just past the casino, in front of Villa Chessa.
