Me and my co-worker are planning a weekend trip (4 days/3 nights) to the DR in 2 weeks. I did not know too much about travelling there until I started doing some research this week. Here is the plan we have come up with: fly into Las Americas airport and stay at a hotel near downtown Santo Domingo, probably the Hotel Santo Domingo, but other suggestions for good hotels would be helpful. We would like to visit Boca Chica for at least one full day just to check it out. From what I have read it's only about a 20-30 min taxi ride from SD. Does this seem like a good plan? What other places are worth checking out while we are there? :rambo:

We are black males in our late 20s and we are definitely looking for the night life scene and to see some beautiful ladies ;) . Any suggestions would be helpful. We are trying to book this last minute trip soon. Suggestions on hot spots in SD and BC would be helpful. :chinese:

The airport is a lot closer to Boca Chica the Santo Domingo. So you might wan to spend either the first or last night in BC.

Keep in mind that the Hotel Santo Domingo probably does not allow you to bring ladies back to the room.

Info

Thanks for the info. I actually didn't want to stay in a hotel in BC, just wanted to go there for the day. I realize that the nicer hotels in SD don't allow you bring girls back to the room. If we so happen to want to do this ;) , do you know of hotels that allow this that are not "hole in the walls"? We still want a decent place to lay our heads.

I see from another posting that Sosua is about 4 hours from Santo Domingo. I did want to spend a few hours taking in some of the historical sites that's why I saw SD as the place to go. I want to party, but don't want that to be my whole trip. What does Sosua have to offer that's better than Santo Domingo and Boca Chica?

Right on Gazcue, THE place to be. During the day walking distance to Zona Colonial, during the night walking distance to the casino at the Jaragua. And then, there's Gazcue ... If straight-up partying is what you crave, night life at Zona Colonial is what you're looking for. If playing is part of your trip itinerary, the Napolitano is chica friendly !

SD has a lot to offer, just don't get discouraged. Remember, if it's your first time there, AND you act like tourists, you'll be treated like tourists ...

To be quite honest, if you say you want to party and see historical things....
4 days is really not near enough time. It goes sooooo fast! Trust me..

Even visiting for a week isn't much time for getting to see things.

Hopefully you will love the DR and come back soon.

Once you have spent a few days, and see the culture though..I have no doubt you will want to come back soon. :)

For now I would suggest keeping your trip on the South coast...and on your 2nd trip back to visit the North Coast with Sosua, Caberete, Puerto Plata...etc.

Thanks Peachez and gardito. I will check out the hotels that were recommended and see what their availability is for the dates I am travelling. Unfortunately, I do not able to take more than a 4 day vacation at this time because of my job. Plus, I have to save some time for the 7 day trip I am taking to Brazil at the end of the year. I am sure I will want to come back to DR after my visit.

Just a heads up for the part of your vacation dealing with the historical sites, Dominicans are fairly formal in their dress and you won't get into the cathedral and other sites in shorts.

You have received good advice on the hotel part of your visit so I am sure you will have a wonderful time.

Have a great stay and don't forget the camera, there are some really interesting photo taking opportunities in the capital. Plus your friends will be very jealous when they see the photos of all the attractive Domincan girls you will meet.

South Coast

If you are going to stay on the south coast, there is lots to see and do. The southeast corner of the country has lots of nice towns, and is more laid back compared to other parts LaRomana is a nice area, you might just find what your looking for there, Bayahibe is a little fishing town with day trips (sail over and speed boat back) to isla saona, an island protected by the national wildlife foundation.

Thanks

Thanks all for the useful advice. We are still trying to decide on a date right now, so I don't know when I will be going right now. I will definitely have the camera ready to capture all the "sites" of DR that I can. ;) I will keep everyone's advice in mind.

It sounds like you're in and out for a quick visit and just looking for some fun but want to see a few sites as well. The sites worth seeing in SD will take less than one day...there really ain't much. After you live here you get interested in some other sites to see but I doubt you want to spend your day(s) going through stuff you can see at home. Especially when you are only here for 3 days. Just hit the big ones.

Sooner gave you good advice...shorts are a no-go in the Cathedrals and Independence Park as well.

Check out El Conde and the Colonial Zone, go to Boca Chica for a day trip or two, relax and don't try to do so much. I guarantee you will be back. It's a cool place.

Be safe and don't change money in the streets...it's a scam.

Labor Day in DR....

Thanks Scandall for the info and advice. We may have to move the trip to Labor Day weekend in September now. I found some really cheap flights for that date. Is it live in DR during that time? Is it still sunny and warm there in early September? If I need to start a new thread, let me know :glasses:

I personally find Septembers to be the hottest...others may disagree. But there always some cool things going on in September. Good luck.
