I am pleased as punch to see a new version of this system being implemented during the next six weeks. Some of you may remember that something similar was in place about six years ago. Back then, it didn't last very long. The choferes slowly phased it out over a period of 5 months or so.
Last time around, the publicos were issued new license plates. Cars with plates ending in even numbers alternated working days with cars with plates ending in odd numbers. You can still see some of the plates being used by publicos to decorate the front of their "vehicles." This time, publicos will display large color coded stickers on their side doors.
I remember last time that the traffic congestion had gotten to a crisis point not unlike what we suffer today. Let's pray the system is enforced and lasts this time around. I have my doubts because the chofer unions have immense political power and their sheer numbers make it difficult if not impossible to enforce regulations.
