Intellicast.com (storm tracking site) indicates that tropical storm "jose" is heading towards the DR, with winds expected to reach 80MPH. What's the word in the DR? Are local weather people expecting it to strike the DR, or is it more likely to pass to the north (as usually seems to be the case)?

Most local people not even aware of it. That is usually reserved for full fledged hurricanes. At this point Miami weather still shows 0% likelyhood of striking Santo Domingo or Puerta Plata as it is still too far away. Probably by tomorrow night(Tuesday pm) there will better indications.

See today's daily news report on the storm. Here's a link showing it passing north of the DR. But it is really too early to tell. All one can do is monitor it closely.
