Santo Domingo, is it Safe, and worthwhile

This board is really helping. Is Santo Domingo safe and what are the best resorts to stay at. Have been going to Aruba for the Past 4 years but the price is getting too high. We travel in january. Thanks for any info you might have.

Santo Domingo is very safe, very exciting and extremely interesting. Aruba can not come close to the cultural activities, history and excitement you can find in SD. Unfortunately, SD proper has no resorts that I know of. You have to travle at least to Boca Chica (45 mins) to stay at a "resort" as SD is a metropolitan city
