Has anyone shipped gear (keyboards, amps, etc) from Canada ? I'd like to bring my own equipment to DR later this year. Any hints would be appreciated. Also - any good sources for Music Equipment on the North Coast ?
None at all. Local musicians who are serious buy their stuff abroad. Musicians who are not so serious play surprisingly well on gear most of us wouldn't salvage from the trash can.
If you are bringing in a single guitar or other portable instrument you should have no problem getting through customs with the thing.
Amp rigs could be a problem, I recommend you go through a freight forwarder rather than try to do it yourself. You eliminate the chance of getting a real good deal but also the chance of getting really badly screwed.
