Christmas 2007...any suggestions/recommendations?

Hello:

I'm planning on having a family trip(myself, 18 yr. old daughter and 5 yr. old son, I'm a single parent) I would like to arrive on the Dec. 23rd and leave Jan. 2nd.

I don't want to do the resort thing, or see any tourist traps. sightseeing, beaches, swimming, possibly a tour or nature hike..

If you can recommend any places, I would appreciate it!!!

Whats wrong with staying on a resort and venturing out?

Problem is that if you stay somewhere else, you might have trouble keeping the son and daughter entertained.

I think I do the North Shore...Maybe Cabarete. Base there and tour a bit.
Look at some threads about things to do. Damajagua Falls, for instance.
Snorkle dives. That sort of thing.

You will have a ton of fun.
