hello to all....have not posted in a few weeks but I have a question I hope someone out there can help me with.okay I am dating a young lady from Santiago and we are thinking about getting married.but she tells me that if she is married she must move out of her father's house.although I have been to make a republic quite a few time's.hand still learning about the culture they.so if someone can be so kind as to tell me is this true or not.because I explained to her that I can not move to Santiago right away.I have to take care of things here in the state's and it will take about a year or so maybe that's too settled things here.just curious as to some of the customs regarding this situation.

Not quite the right words, but: "Buyer Beware".

If you don't quite understand that, I suggest you do alot of searching on the forums. Many women here will lead you on, and have just one thing in mind, get out of the Dominican Republic. They will lie, steal or borrow to make that come true. As far as customs here, I would think the family would welcome having a son-in-law to take care of their daugther and not kick her out. Sounds like she just wants her own place at your expense. Has she asked for her own "Cell Phone" yet?

That?s my opinion....

Here, there, EVERYWHERE, there are parents that expect their kids to move out of the house after they get married. Nothing wrong with that, it's not a Dominican "thing", rather a common sense "thing".

In your situation, unless her parents are the biggest jack asses in the Universe, ANY Dominican parents would LOOOOOVE to have their daughter stay home when they marry someone from the US.

Why?. Because they know that if she stays, YOU will be sending some "greenies" to help them out.

Have you tried talking to her parents and telling them that you will send some money over, if she stays?.

Or is it that they do not approve of you?.

Btw: be warned that SOME Dominicans, when married to a foreigner and living by themselves, ARE FAIR GAME!!.

Ay mi madre, en que lio este se ha metido!!!.

okay maybe I phrased things in the wrong way..she did not ask me for a telephone..when I met her she had her own telephone she has also never called and asked me for money..the only money that I have given her was so she could use the Internet caf?..which is about 50 bucks what I meant to say was she's not asking for a place to stay for her own self but she assumed I would moving down sooner and we would get a place together..I can tell she is very happy at home and safe and secure.but the reason why I asked this question was that some other females that I know.has told me that usually when a woman staying at home gets married she needs to get out and find their own place.the only reason I brought this up was that I explained to her that I live in the states and that it would be easier if she stayed at home until I moved down not sure on all the customs..but in other friend of mine told me he has been there for 15 years and is still learning more about Dominican customs..she has three other sisters to a married and are out of the House and one who is still living at home

You can use this to your advantage.
As so many of these long distance relationships end up in disaster, you can use her own words to protect you, by telling her you cannot move in with her, and you certainly would not want her away from the safety of her father's house until you are there, 24/7, so you will have to postpone signing on the dotted line.
This will afford you some more time to be sure of what you are doing.

Just a suggestion--- why don't wait until you two can be together before you can get married? What's the rush? By then you will know eachother better and know if it's the right decision.

you make a valid point and that is what I told my finance we can we until I move down to the DR hopefully in February..but she replied maybe you will meet someone else in between this time..there is one thing I do know about Dominican when it is that they are very insecure maybe I'm wrong but from my experience that is what I see...but we will have a lot to talk about on my next trip ...thanks for the advice

EZTIME,From Your Post,I Gather That You Are NOT An American

Is That correct? "Eastern European Possibly?

I will give you a short "QUIZ" ,then I will give you my opinion as to if you should marry your "NOVIA",or not.

How old are you?
Where are you from?
Do you speak Spanish?
How do you plan to support you, your "Novia",and the "Others" that come with her in the DR?
Where did you meet your "Novia"?
How many days after you met did you have sex with her?
Does she spend the night with you in a hotel when you are in Santiago?
Looking forward to your answers.

I have been married to a "Dominicana" for 12 years. We live in Santo Domingo, and have 4 kids.

I agree with Cris. This guy is not an American. He can't write in english. It is painful to read. Maybe he is illiterate.

Well, many an American cannot write in English properly.
He certainly is not illiterate... I've seen worse spelling here. :pirate:
Strange, however, is, that well written passages alternate with howlers.

My guess: 58 years old, from a small midwest town, nice guy, hormone-whisked by a 23-year old Dominican girl... ;)

Age old questions:

How old is he? My guess mid-50's.
How old is she? My guess 15-16.

I read some of his other posts, same bad English, but he did have one technically intelligent response in one.

first of all let me say that I'm very articulate and the reason why my words look the way they do is that I am using voice recognition software ...and in trying to train the software to my speech pattern sometimes can be a bit difficult but I hope to have mastered this within a few weeks I have a computer with all the bells and whistles there's no reason why not to shot implicate them.when I say articulate I am more articulate than most.also the fact that I just had dental work done does not help with my speech pattern .but onto the question at a yes in mind the 50s fianc? in her 30s.still living at home with no children.I'm also new to bulletin boards and thought this would be a great way to get some questions answered..it seems to be a lot know it all out there..I think what most people come to inform..a come seeking advice not criticism.although I thrive on criticism but constructive criticism..by one negativity I can get at the local bar on the corner I was always taught if you don't have something good to say don't say nothing at all..yes everyone is entitled to the opinion as such it may be.I'm also a person who does not get offended very easily .also for those of you who have been chatting all forms for a long time must remember that there was a first-time when they were new to chat forums and sometimes was a little nervous ..I'm pretty sure that as time goes by I will get better at this forum in DR

is not my intention to belittle people but thank you guys with the encouragement.they're all types of people out there in the world not all people have a thick skin.although I can hang with the best of them.I joined this form hoping to get a better insight on things in the DR..because I plan on retiring their hopefully within the next 12 months yes I've been to the DR quite a few times but living there and vacationing are two totally different things altogether..that is why I seek the advice of those on the board who actually live in the DR..can hope to become a active member of this DR one..who knows perhaps maybe one day I can pass on some advice to someone new..that is one of the things I believe..there is not enough compassion in the world..I will be in Santiago in the month of May hopefully I can meet up with someone who lives there..also besides using voice recognition software text-to-speech software.this also tell you a little bit about me that I am a little lazy and do not like to type or read.but that is why have all this great technology at my fingertips..I figure if I had I might as well use it.also some of you people can be very long-winded.and after 3 all more hours on the computer your finger start to go numb and your eyeballs start to hurt

Btw: be warned that SOME Dominicans, when married to a foreigner and living by themselves, ARE FAIR GAME!!.

Yep and don't I know it.....I met a young hottie last trip down who decided to tell me on the third day of hangin out that she's married to some poor bastard stuck in a U.S. jail for DUI.......which took the pressure right off me!

I'm headed back in days to service her lonliness again....she hasn't asked me for anything either, so all she get's is a Brugal filled, Viagra induced pyratt's sword while I'm down there....and he's wherever, hopefully with a good grip on the soap!

Wait until you can be there bro....the waters of the Caribbean are full of pyratts like me.
