Anybody else look up Navassa Island? Interesting footnote to US imperial pretensions in mid XIX century...

It is interesting to note that Venezuela lays claim to an EEZ that practically covers most of the Southern Caribbean sea, due to it's sovereignty (disputed by many nations) to an island called Isla de Aves, located midway between Hispaniola and Venezuela. Some experts don't even consider Isla de Aves a true island, since it has shrunk over times, and currently during high tide, what's left of the island is below sea level. Notwithstanding, Venezuela maintains a permanent military (Naval) presence on the island, built on stilts.

Wow, The United States EEZ seems to be more than eleven times bigger than that of China, ..there must be lots of oil and other minerals there somewhere. Not mention the amount of fish that, unlike Japan, are basically going to waste.
