do you love merengue? i don't mean "like", i mean LOVE merengue?
I played in a pop band for ten years in the USA, compose, record, and I teach dance, and I can tell you that there is a fantastic band that plays the Jaragua on El Malecon in Santo Domingo nightly, starting at 10:30pm (NOT the band that starts earlier!). They call themselves simply "Merengue Band." They aren't bigtime, don't have a CD, but Wow. I mean wow!
I went to Club Platinum, Club 60, I heard the big pros play at Jet Set, and the El President Festival....hey, "Merengue Band" was my favorite! A wonderful stage presence, energetic and showly, but in a natural kind of way, no "attitude." Solid rhythms and grooves, solid lead singing, great harmonies, volume just right (not blasting you out of your seat). I would come back to Santo Domingo to just to hear them (and to dance!).
