Today I got an Amazon Kindle. Its a device for reading electronically. The screen is electronic, but very close to paper quality.
I bought a copy of today's WSJ ($0.75), installed it on the device via USB, then went to the gym. I was able to read today's WSJ at the gym on it.
The Kindle may be a killer device for expats because:
- we can download content as soon as it is available in the US (eg newspapers, normally impossible to get daily here)
- we can buy books on it without paying shipping/aduana costs and having to wait for the book to arrive. Also the books are cheaper.
Mine cost US$400 + RD$1500 in aduana.
Its a V1.0 device and has limitations. But I think I really like it. It was great to read the newspaper away from the computer, my first time ever since I've been here.
