Anyone know any places (in Santo Domingo or Santiago) that offer Dominican cooking lessons? I'm doing a project on Dominican food and would like to see how different people make different traditional dishes.

Also, any suggestions about restaurants or street vendors (in SD) that offer the best Dominican foods around?

Thanks!

Haven't seen specifically Dominican cooking lessons on offer, especially not in English. Celebrity cooks like Eugenia Rojo run courses once in a while but these tend to be international cooking. Best advice would be to ask Dominican friends whether they or a family member would be prepared to give you a demonstration of, say, preparing a sancocho. Offer to buy ingredients and fr?as!

Good Dominican food can be found at Mes?n de Bari on Calle Hostos in the colonial zone. Nice surroundings too. There is a typical comedor called Mimosa which is said to be good, also in the Colonial Zone (on Arzobispo Nouel coming up to the intersection with Meri?o, very near the Cathedral). A really good option is Adrian Tropical with branches on the seafront Malec?n (near the intersection with Ave. M?ximo G?mez) and Ave. Lincoln (north of 27).

Chiri-

Thanks very much for your suggestions! I'm noting them for when we get there.

Also, the lessons do not need to be in English.
