Banda de Merengue o Bachata

My friends and I are looking to start my own merengue/bachata band. I have a guitar and guira, I'm planning on buying a tambora, accordion, and electronic keyboard.
I can get some of the strings on the guitar by ear... But is there another way (tabs or something) to find out how to play typical merengue/bachata beats?

Also,
I live about 10 minutes from NYC. Does anyone know where I can get good instruments? I might go to D.R. in October, so maybe I'll just get the instruments there..

48th street between 6th and 7th Avenue. Thats' where all the good music shops are.

I wouldn't get a guitar anywhere else.

Sam Ash is located on 159 West 48th Street.

Then there is Mannys' at 156 West 48th Street. On that same street there are a couple of other shops you can go to but these are the two most renown.
