Canyoneering in the D.R.

Hi there,
I'm gathering information for a documentary we're doing here at Pilot Productions for our trekking series "Treks in a Wild World". We will be visiting the Dominican Republic and we're hoping to do a feature on Canyoneering in the D.R. What I wanted to know was when Canyoneering first began in the D.R. and where it originated from. If someone could answer this for me I'd be very grateful. Many thanks, Nicola.

I can't answer your questions. But if you're not already in touch with Rancho Baiguate in Jarabacoa, you should seriously consider calling them. Among other activities they organise fantastic 'Canyoning' trips in the mountains around Jarabacoa. Talk to the owners Estella & Omar or the daily manager Enrique. I'm sure they can help you.
