How does banking work in the Dr. I'm from Canada and I have accounts at the scotia bank. I noticed in PUerto Plata there is a scotia bank. Can i acccess my Canadian accounts, what funds do they deal in?
Unless things have changed drastically in the past few months, you'll find that you can access your Canadian account only through the ATM machines and wire transfers -- not through direct use of checks and/or deposits. You'd have to set up an account at a Dominican branch of Scotia Bank to get those privileges. You can have such an account in the DR in either Dominican pesos or US dollar denominations, but not both.
