Hi, I'm doing a project on the political structure of the Dominican Republic and I can't find the functions that committees play in the legislature. I've looked everywhere but I can't find the answer to that question. Can someone please give me the answer or tell me where I could find it, Thanks.

Frank,
If you can read Spanish, use the following hyperlink:
http://www.senado.gov.do/reglamento.htm#CAPITULO XII
This explains in great detail the role of committees in the Senate. The role of committees in the Chamber of Deputies is roughly equivalent. If you can't read Spanish, run the material through AltaVista's "Babelfish" translator at the following hyperlink: http://babelfish.altavista.com/translate.dyn
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Keith

hi Keith:
another way to answer questions like this one is to reach the Latin American Studies Department of your local university, you may want to check under the Anthropology dept. in case there is no Latin American Studies.
hope you did well in your project.

Estimada Meliza,

A good suggestion. [I am a graduate of such a department -- Dept. of Latin American Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. :) ]

Although it does not discuss Congressional committees per se, a decent brief general description of the Dominican COngress and its powers and history has been compiled by the US Library of Congress, and can be found at: http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/r?frd/cstdy:mad:field(DOCID+do0081)

Another general suggestion for those wanting this sort of info for LatAm countries: the Latin American Political Database compiled by Georgetown Univ. The hyperlink for its English pages is: http://www.georgetown.edu/pdba/english.html
Unfortunately, they do not have info on the DR's legislature (they're more complete on Mexico, Venezuela and the Southern Cone nations than on the DR).
Atentamente,
Keith
