Las Aromas.

Very nice parkland course with very small greens and great views of the mountains, and parts of the city. You also get an escort by a motor security officers on 3 or 4 holes. During the week I would not play it before 10 AM, they tend to drown the greens, which I believe they leave alone on the weekend with all the local play! That's my take on it!;)

The above posts are correct. Las Aromas is located on the south side of the river, the second right afteryou cross the bridge or the first right after the Shell Station.

Green fees are modest and the game is interesting.

Nearby is Jarabacoa.

Do they offer classes for kids as young as 5. Out of all the sports to play, oddly enough my 5yr old son wants to play golf! Thanx in advance.

Tish,
leaving the centre of Santiago behind you (heading west sou west as I recall), go across the iron bridge, continue about i mile & just after the petrol station (30 yards or so) turn right up the hill. Continue along this road until you enter the golf club ground itself!

Price of green fees WAS (last time I played there was earlier this year) RD $800 for non members, RD $600 for FedoGolf members. Buggies are RD $600 as I recall & caddies are upwards of RD $600 depending on how good they are (or how good a round you have had :cheeky: :pirate:!!) Watch out if you get a hole-in-one though, there is a telegraph system back to the caddie house which defies belief & they are there to claim their free drink/hand out or whatever!!

YES ada,
There is an EXCELLENT professional there called John Allen. His rates are very reasonable as this is a 'LOVE' of his!! I always try to see him when I go that way as my swing leaves a LOT to be desired!! ~ Grahame.

If you live in Santiago it is well worth the money to get a membership. Also, since I prefer to walk it is real economical. RD300 after 5 for 9 holes and RD450 for 18 anytime before that. Also, being a member means you don't have to use a caddy, which for me means the difference of being able to play as opposed to not being able to play.

John is a gem. His goal is to make the game simple, not more complex, and simple is good for this small brainer. He told me recently that now he is "of age" and still has his PGA card, he plans on entering the Cap Cana Championship next March.

PM me and I'll give you his cell #...

Apart from the reduced green fees, are there any other benefits that membership brings?

Are there regular club competitions, for instance, and are handicaps regulated from the results?

Thanks Chip.

Is it necessary to know a current member, to be introduced, or is it just a simple matter of paying the appropriate fees?

Is the year from Jan to Dec, or a year from when membership is approved?

I don't know about other clubs throughout the country FB but I understand that membership of Santiago entitles reduced green fees at Playa Dorada - about 35/40% off is my understanding. Jarabacoa might well offer a similar reduction & it is always worth trying to chat Playa Grande into a 'deal'!!

Santiago members are basically a very friendly crowd & worth 'getting to know'! If you live in the area & enjoy a round of golf every couple of weeks, membership should be beneficial to your health AND wallet! ~ Grahame.

You don't need to know anyone, give them a call for the other info. 809-247-7777.
