Import a car to DR

Hi, i am moving end of this year 2009 back from the US to Dominican Republic.
I will like to bring my 2 cars and my personal staff with me.
A Ford Expedition, year 2004 and a Mercedes SL, year 1996.
I am the owner more than 1 year of this cars.
Can someone help me, with custom in Santo Domingo.
Can i bring my 1996 also to DR?
Are this cars Tax free? (i am Dom Res.)

Use the search function to look at multiple posts on bringing cars here.
A couple of points.
I do not think you can bring the 1996 vehicle
I believe you have to own the cars for two years
With out residency you will not qualify for any tax break (and you will still pay taxes with it). With out plan on spending about 50% of the vehicles value on taxes.

I did it and would not do it again. Well maybe i would but it was expensive.

From what I remember, the ownership is slightly less, at 1 year proven ownership.

You can apply for the 168 law (moving-law) . You can bring all your personal stuff (Free of charge) and the Ford Expedition 2004 will pay very little tax, but I don't know about your second car....

just make sure you have the right information before you ship your stuffs.
Find out about door to door service....They are a few companies Montero Shipping and some others....
