Grippe - Influenza Protection?

I lived in the northeastern US for many years. In Oct-Nov each winter, people were offered a "flu shot" - an injection containing a minimal dosage of the most popular influenza viruses currently in circulation in the country - provided at a walk-in clinic or an MD's office. The flu shot was usually, but not always, effective for the winter. Is there such a thing in the RD for grippe? Has anybody tried it? Where can it be obtained? When [ie during what months is it most effective]? Costs? Comments? Thank you; have a healthy winter.
