Now I know that you are not going to believe this one.
I would not, had I not just seen it with my own eyes.
I have been getting MAIL here in SD for the last year. I mean delivered to my door. OK; I only risk one magazine subscription but since there are no postal service places within easy walking distance of Gazcue, it cost me $6 buck in the taxi to pick up any sort of package and was just not worth it.
But a friend said she got cds from Amazon delivered. So I risked it. Over the year, I have had about 6 deliveries from Amazon, all small, with one or two CDs or books. I have never placed a big order for fear of losing it.
Today, I got a bigger box from Amazon, delivered to the door. It was in a big plastic bags which was sealed with one of those heavy plastic strips that you cannot cut. Now I think that Amazon will only ship books and CDs here since I have tried to ship other stuff and they will not do it to this address.
But I did want to report that the POSTAL SERVICE IS WORKING!!!!!!!
AMAZING!!!!!
ASTONISHING!!!
I remember when I lived up in LT and had a note that someone had sent me a package and I had to drive to Samana to pick it up. And then the lady at the PO in LT looked behind her at this canvas bag which was about 4 feet high and said
"If you are going over to Samana, would you mind taking the mail?"
I imagined that every postcard written by every tourist in the last five years was in that bag!
Coming from the States where tampering with the mail is a federal offense, I was bent over laughing at the proposition that they were going to hand over the mail sack to an extranjera....
But here I am, in the Capital, only four years later,
And the postman rings once!!
