Please read the board....

you will notice that this question has already been asked and answered. DC = Don't click as the message/answer is in the subject line.

Re: What does - mean?

The "-" sign have a number of uses:

1. The subtraction of one entity from another. I.e. 3-1 yields

two.
2. Clarification mark: the comment after the "-" sign is

supposed to clarify the statement before.
3. Verbal quote: when relating a quoted verbal communication,

intermixed with authors comments, it prefixes the actual

quotes.
4. In an unbroken multitude, it (they) can signify a

paragraph/chapter/subject separator.
5. The bank precedes your saldo with it to keep you unhappy.
6. ---

Thanks Gunnar for a plethera of profound punctuation propaganda. By the way , are you quite sure that 3-1 yields 2? (LOL) I must admit, now that I know what DC means I'm a bit embarrassed.....Ive been clicking on all of them!

Re: What does - mean?

3-1 doesn't always yield 2. It was a compromise between
informative value and scientific accuracy.

Don't feel embarrassed, there are many (including me!)
who have missed these U.S. "shortcuts". Sometimes
they are really meant to be non-understandable, we used
to say "Error-RTFM" if a client was around, not to offend
the client. (RTFM=Read The Fu---ng Manual")
