Cafe Cito in downtown POP is great and much cheaper than the usual tourist places. Its run by a Canadian, is cheap enough for locals to hang out and the owner will see that you get a cab home. See the links at POPReport. Definitely give it a try.

i agree 100% Csfe Cito is great. Also check out Sam's Bar and Grill not far from the central park. Ask someone at the park as to where it is.

hi! I am doing a Spanish project and I need to include a restaurant menu, as well as the main ingredients to each one... I will also be traveling to Santo Domingo during February with my family and would like to know what kinds of food will be available to us. Thanks, Mia

El Sabrazon on the main road(right next to the park) in front of I think of the Supermercado Jose Luis, has great Sancocho
El Manguito which is walking distance and on the same road from the Iberostar Costa Dorada, is reasonably priced, and has good food.
La Cachita has great seafood.
And for a good burger, and fries, you can always try Hemmingways in the Playa Dorada.
