Ignoring several judicial decisions regarding the irregularity and illegality of its construction, President Danilo Medina on Friday, 7 August 2020 inaugurated the controversial bus terminal in East Santo Domingo (SDE).
What makes this gesture more newsworthy is that the nation’s very highest courts, the Superior Administrative Court and the Constitutional Court, had ruled against the construction of a bus terminal so close to a protected area in Santo Domingo East. The courts ordered the initiative to follow the rules that included the presentation of a full impact study and community approval.
