You have to answer a thread

When someone answers my thread I can see it. Do I have to wait for an answer every time I ask a question?

no need to wait.
for your own thread, like this one here, you will always get a notification about any answers on your thread,
unless you would have notifications disabled in your profile settings.
once you answreed on anybody else's thread you also will get a notification about any further post on that thread.
