The operations director at the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewage Corporation (CAASD), Luis Salcedo says that all Greater Santo Domingo aqueducts are operating at full capacity. He explained the recent heavy rains have been a blessing. He said drinking water production has been steady at above 400 million gallons a day, even when some systems have temporarily shutdown due to water turbidity.
Salcedo spoke of the Haina-Manoguayabo, Isa-Mana-Duey, Barrena de Salinidad, Isabela, and the eastern Santo Domingo aqueducts. He also mentioned the Valdesia-Higuey system. He observed that, for instance, Valdesia and Jigüey turbines have been operating 24 hours a day, because Nizao and Maomita rivers, which feed this complex, are producing more water than the demand for both drinking water and agricultural irrigation.
