Late last week Dominican ARS companies notified their customers that 100% of the Covid-19 virus hospitalization costs were no longer covered. In fact, the companies, Humana, Monumental, Universal, Yunen, Simac and Mapfre, were going to request an up-front co-pay of some RD$26,000 for patients with the virus.
According to Rafael Mena, the National Association of Private Clinics and Hospitals (Andeclip) president, the clinics informed him that they would no longer accept Covid patients. He announced for legal reasons, the clinics were making available six beds in Santo Domingo, five in Santiago and one each in the provinces for Covid patients.
After government talks with the Health Risk Administrators (Dominican HMOs), the Dominican Association of Health Risk Administrators backtracked and said they would continue full hospitalization coverage.
