Government employees should be affiliated to Senasa

The Dominican government wants all government employees to belong to the National Health Service (SeNaSa). This is one of the major topics that has been brought up during the current and on-going talks at the National Dialogue in Santo Domingo. Of course, this would greatly upset the local HMOs (called Health Risk Administrators—ARS in Spanish) which are private and very profitable entities.

This step is just one of the 12 proposals regarding social security that are to be considered at the Dialogue. Among the changes sought by the government is that the veto power to actions by the National Social Security Council can only be made by the government.
