Dominican Republic is first in Group C of CONCAF WC qualifier

The Dominican Republic women’s football team advanced in the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday, 19 February 2022. The DR women’s squad (ranked 14th) defeated Cayman Islands (ranked 28th) team at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town, Grand Cayman. A controversial foul favored the Dominican team with Manuela Lareo of the DR capitalizing on a penalty, giving her team an early lead 21 minutes into the match. After the early controversy, the DR would go on to score three more times.

In another game, the DR team defeated Grenada (9-0). This positions the DR tied in first place with Jamaica, followed by Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Grenada. The DR will match Bermuda in April 2022.
