Members of the Specialized Land Border Security Corps (Cesfront) installed a protective mesh on the border bridge located between Ouanaminthe in Haiti and Dajabón in the Dominican Republic on Monday, 18 March 2024. The wire mesh fencing on the upper part of the bridge was installed to avoid another tragedy such as occurred last week when a Haitian woman merchant making her way in the crowd to the binational market on the Dominican side of the border was pushed by the crowd and fell off the bridge.

The woman was hospitalized in the Dominican Republic and reportedly is recovering from the injuries. Hoy corrected original reports that the woman had died from injuries in the fall.
