Medical Association joins Catholic Church in demands for better health and pension plans

The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) joined the calls of the Roman Catholic Church in the Dominican Republic for major changes in the social security law. The Roman Catholic Church during the Seven Last Words proclamation on Good Friday, 26 March 2024, blasted the government for complicity in the denounced profiteering of the financial entities that manage the medical and pension plans in the Dominican Republic. The ARS and AFP entities are highly profitable for their shareholders.

Dr. Waldo Ariel Suero, president of the CMD, joined the Catholic Church in the view that big business has had enormous earnings at the expense of the Dominican population. He called for reforms so that the social security system be at the service of the population and not big business.
