Son of former Dajabon senator sent to jail to await trial for drug trafficking

Judge Yaritza Cabral de la Cruz, of the Judicial Office of the Permanent Care Services of Santiago, ruled three months of preventive detention against Rafael José de la Rosa Mateo and two other men, linked to the seizure of 161 pounds of marijuana. De la Rosa Mateo was ordered to await trial in a Dajabon jail.

The court allowed the two others involved in the charge to post bond for RD$500,000 but these are not allowed to leave the country so they may appear as needed as the case advances.

Rafael José de la Rosa Mateo is the son of former PLD legislator Rosa Sonia Mateo Espinosa (2010-2016). She had claimed her son was a victim of a dirty campaign against her by sitting and reelected mayor Santiago Riveron. Sonia Mateo also served as governor for Dajabon from 2004 and in 2006 was named mayor of Dajabon.
