There was a time when key micro-trafficking drug spots in the Dominican Republic were listed on Google so people using Google maps could find them easily.

The Abinader administration has done a turnaround and the Google drug points in Santo Domingo are no longer openly listed. Crackdowns on shipments have increased several many times. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently acknowledged speaking in a press conference on 6 September 2024. He pointed out that the present Abinader administration, from 2020 to 2023 had seized over 100 tons of narcotics, that is more than in the previous decade and a half. Blinken said the amount seized is indicative of the magnitude of the challenge, but also of the commitment to strengthen even more collaboration against international crime.
