Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez proposes the DR as host for the 2026 41st ECLAC conference. The economic summit is one of the most important in the Americas. He made the presentation when speaking during the Wednesday, 9 October 2024 plenary session of the 40th Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) that is happening in Lima, Peru from 9 to 11 October 2024.
During his turn, Foreign Minister Alvarez urged the transformation of the international systems architecture to meet today’s challenges. He stressed Latin America and the Caribbean have traditionally been a place of peace, where peace and security are fundamental for economic and social development.
In the medium term, he said more funding needs to be channeled to development in favorable conditions.
