President Luis Abinader and members of the National Congress will enact the 2024 Constitution during an event programmed to be held at the congressional headquarters on Sunday, 27 October 2024. The presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies have convened the National Constitutional Revisory Assembly to meet on Saturday and Sunday, 26 and 27 October.
President Abinader announced during his weekly La Semanal press conference on Monday, 21 October 2024 that he would be at the National Congress to sign the amendments to the Constitution that passed last week in Congress.
The National Congress has yet to release to the public the complete listing of the new amendments to the 2015 Constitution, including the transitory clauses.
The ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) had the absolute majority in both houses of Congress to pass the amendments.
