Digesett director, General Osoria de la Cruz says the institution cannot place limits on circulation of motorcyclists in the Dominican Republic. He responded to an editorial in Listin Diario, “The Deadly Epidemic of Two Wheels”, that highlighted that reckless motorcyclist driving is behind the present-day epidemic with motorcycles involved in nine out of 10 traffic accidents.

The Digesett website says that the agency is in charge of road safety in the Dominican Republic. It plans and coordinates traffic management, oversight, supervision, and the design and implementation of mobility and safety controls. Digesett website says the agency monitors the enforcement of traffic laws to prevent accidents and reports violations of Law 63-17. The organization also conducts operations to reduce reckless driving behaviors and urges citizens to respect traffic laws...

I think it is more of a recognition of reality and admitting that this battle cannot be won.
The Darwin Award competitions will continue unabated.

Seize and destroy a few thousand motos for having no helmets or running red lights and going the wrong way and soon you will see how many obey the laws.
The moto owners will be most observant.
If that is not done then the streets will continue to descend into driving madness where respectful people will not venture out. It isn't far away now

I agree. Draconian measures are the only way things will begin to change.

I don't expect any draconian measure. So the carnage will continue. This problem is aking to fixing Haiti.
No solution to either.

Fat fucking chance. About 2 weeks ago on Autopista San Isidro I was walking on the sidewalk when a moto driver came at me the wrong way on the sidewalk. There was only 1 vehicle on the autopista, a parked cop truck with 3 cops eating. Totally useless asswipes.

Yep, confescating the bike is the only solution, destroying is probably a bit too far, but these guys like their bikes, just a week and a big fine will have a huge effect..., giving fine for bikes that don't have proper document or known owner is useless... (most docs are probably fake anyway).

As mentioned not much money in doing that, a lot of hassle, so never happens...! I've seen them doing it occasionally for helmet and insurance, but never the important ones like jumping red light, going opposite one way street, etc....

Unless they're on patrol, how are they ever going to see that?

The reason everyone here sees all these crazy things that the moto drivers are doing is mostly because we're driving around? How many AMET officers do you ever see driving around?

Getting back to the title, I'm pretty sure the people who head these departments are expected to do as much as they can without the funds to do it.
For example, the guy in charge of Digesett only has manpower at his disposal.

Try to come up to a solution to the motorcycle issue without funds.

Exactly. Wasted words on a subject everyone knows about and about which nothing will be done.

That depends. How is he using the allocated $ he has? Is the ticket revenue supplemental? They need a full audit if he's going to whine about it.
