Dominicans arrested in US states or Puerto Rico have the option of voluntarily seeking to return. This avoids the latter being marked by a criminal record that would happen if they wait out the deportation process, Diario Libre reports.

As reported in El Nuevo Dia of Puerto Rico, 11 Dominicans of 12 that were detained on Sunday, 28 January 2025 have accepted to return voluntarily from Puerto Rico.

El Dia reports that deportations of Dominicans are nothing new and have been happening for years, with many Dominicans who have committed crimes in the United States returned regularly.

Diario Libre reports that around 11,000 were deported during the past Biden administration to the Dominican Republic from US territory. Most of these had taken the Mexico entry route, and others were returned after serving jail sentences. In 2024, 3,863 Dominicans were deported from the US...

But wait, the liberal media in the USA would have one believe that "undocumented" people in the USA are only in violation of civil codes, not criminal code violation.

How does being deported change that from civil to criminal offenses for people that were not already convicted of other US crimes?
I suspect the article incorrectly stated the situation for those who are simply illegal aliens that committed no other crimes.

That said, being deported once does not look good for anyone trying to go back to the USA legally....

I have a Haitian gym friend who did the exact same thing, voluntary deportee. This was in lieu of a drug bust. I'm wondering if he will ever be allowed back.

Agreed but at the same they're just trying to soften the blow. The last administration gave them false hope and sold them a pipe dream.
I'm guessing many of them do not have the resources to self-deport on their own.
The Leftist open borders policy was a bad idea for both of these countries.
