The Dominican Republic faces a critical shortage of blood, requiring a high 800 pints daily. A significant portion of these cases stemmed from traffic accidents, underscoring the devastating impact of road incidents on the nation’s blood supply, El Dia reports.
In response, the National Health Insurance Provider (Senasa) has launched a mobile blood donation unit to address the urgent need.
Santiago Hazim, the director of Senasa, highlighted the alarming statistic that over 100,000 Senasa members required blood transfusions last year. “This data reveals the extent to which our members required blood or blood products due to traffic accidents in 2024,” Hazim explained. “Every drop of blood is crucial in emergencies, and your donation can make a life-saving difference.”
