I will look back to in 2000's when I first used Skype and that how I met my wife. Skype was real simple and free after I had used many different platforms like CamFrog, ICQ, etc. But when WhatsApp came out, it seems it became more popular people using it.

Microsoft says once Skype goes dark, everyone who uses it will transition over to the new platform: Microsoft Teams.

Is anyone using Teams? Is it good for international calls?
Daily, very good. You can also call phones I think.

I wanted a Skype number for my home country a month ago and discovered that this feature was retired, and so now Skype will be retired completely? Kind of sad. That is the app I started communication online too...

For some reason, as far as I have seen, Teams is more used by EU companies, whereas at least the companies I have been involved with, if they as US-based, they prefer either Zoom or Google Meet.

If you still have the number, they will move over to your Teams account as well even all credits remaining.

Skype helped me make a lot of money while at the same time saving me thousands in travel expenses over the last 20 years or so but all good things in life come to an end.
RIP.

I meant that I wanted to purchase a new Skype number and that feature was disabled. Can you purchase a new number in Teams?

I used Teams all of the time at work. It's on the level of people you see being interviewed off site on the news networks. Throw up the background you want and you're good to go.

I use Skype to call mobile phones in the D.R. from Germany since it was possible. Skype charges Paypal in blocks of 10 USD.
Never looked for alternatives because was too lazy.

So what are the alternatives to call mobile phones in the D.R. from a smartphone via the internet like it is possible with Skype?
Google Voice?

WhatsApp would work. Or messenger. Maybe not toll-free but I’ve called cell to cell from US to DR and vice versa on both.

Whatsapp works fine and free from cell to cell here. But only within WA, can't call a cell number. For the record you can call from any Country to any other Country with WA as long as both have it on their cells.................

How can one make toll-free calls (800 numbers) from the DR to the US? Magic Jack? Or Teams? I always used Skype.

I use it for my company sometimes, its really cool. You can check more info @ http://microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software
Hell, I'm in deep doo-doo. How do I call my bank in the U.S. ? Or any business anywhere that requires a phone call? I checked out the member's Microsoft Teams link. I looked at all the pricing plans. I see NO ability to make any phone calls. The only phone calls you can make in the second paid tier is to Team support. As far as I can tell, it's Microsoft's version of Zoom, adding their Microsoft365, etc.
