Abinader administration issues another decree seeking to control wasteful spending

President Luis Abinader issued on 28 February 2025, Decree 105-25 ordering rational use of public resources for spending. He ordered the fulfillment of administrative control measures in place, including a ban on the purchase of vehicles and the carrying out of travel and partying. The measure applies to all in government.

As reported in El Nacional, opposition legislators say this is a demonstration that the government has not been able to control wasteful spending and spending by politicians in office that are backing select presidential candidacy hopeful for the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM). Given that President Luis Abinader cannot run for a third term, the PRM politicians are grouping around several possible candidates.
