The Superintendence for Labor Health and Risks (Sisalril), somewhat like OSHA in the United States, has authorized a major increase in coverage for traffic accident victims. The government and taxpayers will be picking up more of the tab for imprudence on the road, the result of inefficiencies in getting drivers to comply with traffic laws.

The government now authorizes RD$1,300,488 for injuries sustained in a traffic accident. This is about a RD$150,000 increase in coverage.

According to Circular 69-2025, the coverage is 100% guaranteed to all affiliates, both those in the payroll deductions regime or those covered under the subsidized regime. The new limit goes into effect on 1 April 2025, and imposes a limit of RD$21,674 on co-payments.

The new regulation also increases the monetary reserves needed to function as a Dominican HMO, going from RD$77 million to RD$88.7 million. The Sisalril also instructs all health services providers that do not have the required RD$88...
