The Hydrobots team from Profesora Felicia Javier Suárez Public High School in Samaná has won their First Lego League 2025 national finals, securing the coveted Champion’s Award. Their victory marks a significant achievement for public education in the Dominican Republic, as they outperformed over 60 teams from both public and private schools nationwide. This is the first time a public high school wins the competition.
The competition, a showcase of innovation and technical skill, recognized 12 teams across various categories, including robot performance, innovation project and core values. However, it was the Hydrobots’ exceptional performance in robotics and innovation that earned them the top prize.
“This win sets a precedent for future generations of public school students,” stated a press release from the event organizers.
