Public Works closes bridge for needed repairs

The Francisco del Rosario Sanchez Bridge, also known as the “17”, will be closed down during Easter Week for repairs.

The recent JetSet Club tragedy that took 226 lives for an apparent structural failure spurred hundreds of complaints who feared the imminent collapse of the aging bridge.

Complaints regarding the delaying of the repairs had been in the media for weeks.

The note from the Ministry of Public Work stresses that a very high-grade group of local and foreign engineers and technicians, including those who designed and built the bridge, will carry out the repairs.

CR. Remember the temporary repairs to the Cangrejo bridge? Didn’t last long. A week’s closure to repair a bridge of this scale doesn’t seem like much time.

Agreed however nobody with half a brain wants to play hot potato with this one.

It's going to take months to repair that bridge.

I was under it once many years ago and I couldn't believe the condition it was in back then .

This bridge is toast. By the time it is brought back to a safe condition it would have cost more work and money than a new one.
